Concerning travel : No particular technical difficulty, but sometimes a few passages in varied terrain depending on the chosen site. The length of the stages requires good physical condition and experience of mountain walking.

Important note: The desert is different from the mountains, so prepare accordingly.

Health & formalities

Recommended vaccinations

It is strongly recommended, especially if you are not up to date with your reminders, to :

  • Tetanus/Polio Vaccination
  • Typhoid vaccination (TYPHIM VI)

Required documents

Passport : Don't forget your passport, and make sure it remains valid for at least 3 months after your return date.

  • Sun cream for face and lips (high SPF)
  • Elastoplast + double skin (Compeed)
  • Anti-diarrheal: Immodium and Intétrix
  • Analgesics: aspirin, Doliprane
  • Eye drops: Uveline or Antalyre
  • Throat medication: Locabiotal, Lysopain
  • Light sleeping pill if necessary
  • Broad-spectrum antibiotics
  • Tweezers
  • Hydroclonazone or Micropur (for water purification)

Recommendations

Don't forget to bring your personal medication in sufficient quantity for the duration of the trip.

Baggage Handling

Divide your belongings into 2 bags:

  • Backpack (30-40L) : For daily walking
  • Travel bag : For the aircraft hold, transported between stages (max. 15kg)

Clothing

  • Good lightweight trekking shoes with grippy soles
  • Bonnet and hat or chèche (better sun protection)
  • Scarf to protect the neck
  • Light gloves (December and January)
  • Windproof jacket (Gore-Tex type)
  • Rainwear
  • Cotton or wool tights for night-time wear
  • Warm sweater and fleece jacket
  • Shirts (one with long sleeves)
  • Pants (one lightweight for walking)
  • Spare underwear and socks
  • Shorts and swimsuit
  • Casual footwear (sandals or sneakers)

  • Small daypack
  • Pocket knife (checked baggage)

Important

Adapt your clothing to the season: Bring warmer clothes (or more layers) if you travel from November to the end of April.

Respecting customs : It's inappropriate for women to reveal too much of their legs and shoulders. For both men and women, avoid short or tight-fitting clothes.
