The Moroccan Anti-Atlas

Anti-Atlas is a mountain range in southwestern Morocco, oriented south-west and north-east over nearly 600 km, located between the Central High Atlas and Atlantic Sahara at Tafilalet. This channel belongs to the Atlas Mountains, and, more precisely, to one of the three elements of the'Moroccan Atlas the other two being the High Atlas and the Middle Atlas.

L'Anti-Atlas is divided into several ranges: to the west, the'Anti-Atlas of Tafraout culminating 2300m, to the east the Jbel Sagro (or djebel Sagho) culminating 2700m and the ancient volcano of Siroua culminating at 3305m.

This arid and mineral region offers spectacular scenery with its pre-Saharan valleys, its canyons and its geological formations unique. L'Anti-Atlas is renowned for its special geology with some of the oldest rocks in Morocco, dating from the Precambrian.

The population of the'Anti-Atlas is mainly Berber and has developed a crop adapted to arid conditions, with a architectural heritage including kasbahs and collective attics (igoudars). Visit almond trees in bloom in spring transform the landscape of Tafraout into an exceptional natural spectacle.
