Visit High Atlas is a Moroccan mountain range with a south-west/north-east orientation. It belongs to the'Atlas, and, more precisely, to one of the three elements of the'Moroccan Atlas the other two being the Middle Atlas and the'Anti-Atlas.
It is the highest massif in'North Africa, sometimes nicknamed the« roof of Morocco »or the« roof of North Africa ». It forms an immense barrier, some 750 km long, which marks the boundary of the Saharan Morocco from Atlantic Morocco and Mediterranean. It is the centerpiece of the country's altimontane domain, covering a total area of 100,200 km².
The population, mainly Berber (Amazigh), lives from pastoralism and agriculture. Visit Western High Atlas is the oldest massif, made up of Jurassic or Cretaceous formations cut by deep valleys.

L'climbing to the roof of North Africa presents no great technical difficulties, and the assistance of the guides and mule drivers and their mules avoids excessive physical exertion. What's more, with an altitude of just over 4,000 metres, the acute mountain sickness poses few problems. Summer is the most propitious season, as the snow and snow are absent.
